Modular mansions: The Future of Homebuilding?
Greenwich Post – 9/2005
Local author Sheri Koones will discuss her new book, “Modular Mansions” Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. at Just Books, Too.
“Modular Mansions” explores America’s fastest-growing method of home construction and profiles 21 modular homes of varying styles from around the country.
The homes Ms. Koones visited and writes about range from 1,344 to 12,700 square feet and include an arts and crafts house on a lake, a canyon-view log home, a colonial, a Victorian nostalgia home in New England, a cottage and expansive mansions. Three of the featured homes are in Greenwich.
Ms. Koones calls modular building the future of home building, and shows that modular mansions can feature spacious custom designs that rival the size and quality of many stick-built homes, as well as a smart way for today’s savvy homeowners to build their dream home. Ms. Koones began writing about home construction after doing extensive research to complete the renovation of her own home in Greenwich several years ago. Her other books include “From Sand Castles to Dream Houses” and “House About It.” Ms. Koones is also a columnist for Home Resource and Design magazine. She earned her B.S. degree from Boston University and a M.S. degree from Columbia University.
